Prof. Yue Liu is currently an associate professor in Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). His current research interests are advanced synthesis and characterization of metal-matrix composites with great mechanical and functional properties, and their performance under extreme conditions, such as mechanical stress, radiation, and temperature, etc.

Research Interests / Expertise

  • Materials Science with the focus on theoretical and experimental understanding of microstructure and deformation physics in nanostructural crystalline materials

  • Materials Engineering with the focus on designing nanostructural materials that possesses desired mechanical and functional properties.

  • Materials Science are focused on more quantitatively exploring the structure-property relationships of nanostructural materials with the effort at atomic scale using Crystallography and Defect theory, Microscopy Characterizations (TEM, XRD, SEM, FIB and EBSD), particularly, the nucleation, growth and interaction of the stress induced phase transformations (such as twinning, martensite, and nanocrystallization).

  • Materials Engineering are focused on developing light-weight materials with combined high strength and ductility, good electrical conductivity and magnetic coercivity, superior thermal stability and deformability by tailoring microstructures and commensurate interfaces.
